Charleston Walking Tour FAQs

The questions we get asked most. If yours isn't here, call or message us.

What can I expect from a JWalk Tour in Charleston?

Get ready for a walk on the light side with JWalk Tours! Our walking tours through Charleston’s historical gems promise a delightful journey into American history, sprinkled with charm, humor, and maybe a dash of Southern sass. We’ll unravel tales of slavery, the American Revolution, and the Civil War, making history feel more like a chat with an old friend.

Where do the tours meet?

There are two meeting points, so check which one applies to the tour you booked. The Badass Broads and Chicora Walk tours meet at Bitty & Beau's, 159 Church St, Charleston, SC. The Junior JWalkers tour meets at 79 Cumberland Street, Charleston, SC 29401. Each address on this site opens straight in Google Maps, so you can navigate to it from your phone.

How long is the walking tour?

About 2 hours of pure historical fun! Custom tours might have a different runtime — think of it as the director’s cut. The Junior JWalkers family tour runs about 1.5 to 2 hours.

Are the tours suitable for all ages?

Absolutely! Even your furry friends can tag along. The Junior JWalkers Tour is built specifically for children aged 5 to 11. Note that the Badass Broads tour covers serious subject matter including slavery and violence.

Do I need to purchase tickets in advance?

Grab your spot ahead of time. It’s like scoring front-row seats to a concert, but with less screaming and more history.

Are pets allowed on the tour?

Yup, we’re pet-friendly! Just keep an eye on your furball’s manners and, of course, scoop that poop. If Fido decides to perform an impromptu solo, kindly address the situation or make a quick exit.

Is tipping appropriate?

We won’t say no to a little extra love in the tip jar. Our guides put the "extra" in extraordinary, so if you feel like sprinkling some joy, go ahead and make it rain (figuratively, of course).

Where should I park?

Parking in Charleston is like finding treasure, but less pirate-y. The city garage on Cumberland Street is the closest public parking to both of our meeting points. Meter fees are on vacation on Sundays and holidays, so feel free to snag a free spot.

What should I wear and bring on the tour?

Think comfy shoes, a dash of sunscreen, and maybe a snazzy hat. Charleston weather can be as spontaneous as a cat video, so check the forecast before you step out.

What happens in case of inclement weather?

Rain or shine, the show goes on! If Mother Nature decides to throw a tantrum, we’ll keep you posted on any changes. But don’t worry, we’ve got rain boots for our words.

What’s the cancellation policy?

Life’s an unpredictable ride, and we get it. If you need to bail within 24 hours, we won’t hold it against you. Let us know, and we’ll make a raincheck for another day.

I want a private tour. What do I need to do?

Please give us a call at (843) 608-1911 to book your private tour. We have a lot of flexibility and options for you, but it’s important to arrange with us as far in advance as possible. If you would rather send a message, head over to our contact page and we’ll answer within 24 hours.

Still have a question?

Send us an email at [email protected], give us a call on 843-608-1911, or use the contact form and we’ll answer within 24 hours. Planning a family trip? The Junior JWalkers page has its own FAQ for parents.

  • A Rare Gem of a Family-Friendly Experience in Charleston

We took the Junior Nighttime Passport Experience with one of our grandkids, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip to Charleston. Instead of just listening to history, the kids become part of the adventure by collecting passport stamps, solving clues, and exploring the city after dark. It kept our grandson completely engaged from start to finish—and honestly, the adults had just as much fun! The guide was energetic, knowledgeable, and fantastic with kids, weaving Charleston’s history into an interactive experience that never felt like a classroom lesson. We all learned something new while laughing and making memories together. If you’re traveling with children or grandchildren, I can’t recommend this tour enough. It’s creative, educational, and genuinely entertaining—a rare combination. Our grandson is already asking when we can come back and do it again. Five stars without hesitation!

  • A MUST DO Family Experience in Charleston

Our family absolutely loved Charleston's Junior JWalker Experience with JWalk Tours! It was the perfect blend of history, fun, and hands-on learning that kept the kids engaged from beginning to end. One of the highlights was that each child received their own Junior JWalker passport at the start of the tour. At every stop, after learning about Charleston's history through interactive stories and fun questions, parents got to place a sticker in their child's passport. It was such a simple but brilliant way to keep the kids excited and involved—they couldn't wait to earn their next sticker! Our guide made history come alive with activities and questions that encouraged the children to participate instead of just listening. By the end of the tour, our kids were proudly showing off their completed passports and talking about all the fascinating things they had learned. This experience was educational, interactive, and thoughtfully designed for families. If you're visiting Charleston with children, the Junior JWalker Experience is a MUST DO. JWalk Tours has created a memorable adventure that makes learning about Charleston's history genuinely fun for kids and parents alike!

  • If you only take one walking tour, make sure this is it!

We take tours via Viator and Trip Advisor throughout the world. We’ve had wonderful experiences but THIS walking tour was EXCEPTIONAL! Jonathan knows how to weave a story and include a great deal of information into one story at each point. You will not regret taking this tour and learning the history of various Bad Ass women of Charleston and the importance of these women in history! Our niece booked the tour for the family and it was perfect!
